Professional development

Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world. Due to the lack of advertising, the media market does not generate enough volume to grow and create employment and fair wages. Low wages are due to the fact that media do not gain enough money from advertising. For this reason, there are no specialised journalists in the country. Most journalists are versatile people who are used to write or produce content on various kinds of issues. Journalism is a liberal profession, which means that a journalism diploma is not required in order to be a journalist. All that is necessary is to practice by writing on a newspaper, or by being its editor. Three months of receiving a regular salary for writing on a newspaper are sufficient to be considered a journalist.
