M. Abul Kalam Azad
is a Dhaka-based journalist with 20-year of experience in reporting on various subjects, including Islamist militancy. He works at The Daily Star as a Senior Reporter. Occasionally, he also writes for the American news agency, Associated Press (AP)
He began his career as a campus reporter, writing on academic issues and violent clashes between student organizations. Upon completing Masters, he became full-time journalist and covered a wide range of topics, including politics, elections and natural disasters. With the emergence of religious extremism and persistent attacks by radical Islamist groups in 2000s, he put his focus on the subject, which eventually became a major issue of reporting in Bangladesh. He is looking forward to do a research on how radicals use Facebook and other apps to operate.
